District promotes anti-racism books

School hides gender from parents

Alleged incident in West Warwick School District · Rhode Island

West Warwick Public Schools maintains a policy allowing staff to withhold information about a student's gender identity from their parents. The policy states that parental notification is unnecessary if parents are already aware and supportive, or if school mental health providers determine notification carries risks for the student. It also permits students to use facilities and participate in sports according to their preferred gender identity without parental consent if safety cannot be guaranteed.
